The children at Heald Place enjoy a wealth of Reading resources and opportunities. We have a very well-resourced Guided Reading programme that incorporates several different reading schemes, so that we have created a very bespoke system for our children. Please see the grid below.

Children have a 20-25 minute session each day where they undertake focussed work based around a range of fiction and non-fiction text types. Some of these activities could be choral reading, book discussion, inference questioning, Phonics work or reinforcement of SPAG (Spelling, punctuation and grammar) work.

The children also have a Home School Reading Journals that they take home each day along with a reading book. Again, we have got an expansive selection of age-related texts that the children can enjoy at home. The Reading Journals are checked each day and your children’s books will be updated and changed on a regular basis.

At Heald Place, we pride ourselves on the children enjoying their reading at every opportunity. We have also got a range of intervention schemes in place (Better Reading Partners – BRP and Lexia) that will enable children who find reading difficult to accelerate their progression so they are meeting and exceeding age related expectations.
