Equality Objectives Statement

Heald Place Primary School is committed to ensuring equality of provision throughout the school community. Below highlights our equality objectives, how these will be implementated and who is responsible for monitoring the progress of each objective.

1. By July 2020, the
percentage of boys achieving
the expected standard in
Reading will be 72%.

 In 2016 - 2017 the school
has identified that boys
are underachieving
academically in Reading.
In FS 74% of girls are
achieving expected levels,
whilst the figure is 54% for
boys. In KS1 72% of girls
are achieving expected levels, whilst the figure is 61% for
boys. At the end of KS2,
49% of girls are achieving expected levels, whilst the
figure is 41% for boys.

Teachers are involving the
children in the choices of
class novels/ texts. In
literacy, classes focus on
a book/text- children given
the opportunity to offer their suggestions/ interest.

  • Year Group Leads,
    Phase leaders, Senior Assistant Head and
    Deputy Head will be responsible for monitoring
    the progress.
  • In FS children vote on enhancements to
    continuous provision workshops. Year group
    teams review provision at least half-termly to ensure that it is engaging all learners. Leaders have revised the curriculum
    to include topics that will engage all learners.

2017-2018:

In FS 86% of girls achieved
GLD and 55% of boys
achieved GLD

In KS1 64% of boys and
81% achieved the expected standard in reading.

At the end of KS2, 57% of
boys and 66% of girls achieved
the expected standard
in reading.

2018-2019:

In FS 84% of girls achieved
GLD and 56% of boys
achieved GLD

In KS1 60% of boys and
82% of girls achieved the
expected standard
in reading.

At the end of KS2 57% of
boys and 66% of girls
achieved the expected
standard.

 

2. Over the next 2 years
we will introduce new
approaches to encourage members of our
Non-Muslim community to
access school meals,
increasing take up by 5%
from that community.

   The school has reflected
on issues / concerns raised
by Parents & Carers regarding
the options provided for school meals. We have an identified
group (13%) who cannot
access the ‘meat’ offer due
to religious beliefs. This group currently only have a vegetarian option offered to them.

The non-halal consultation took place in June 2019. The non-halal option was rolled out in school from September 2019. Due to lack of take up, this option was removed from the menu but is still available on request. 

 

3. To improve the provision
for disabled access by creating disable parking bays.

The school have identified
that disabled staff/ visitors are
not able to easily access the school, as there are currently
no designated disable
parking bays.

1 year The installation of disabled
parking was completed as part
of the library extension capital works, which completed in February 2020.
